Blue Hands Project

The Blue Hands Project is a registry program for people with a developmental, emotional, behavioral, mental, or a physical need/disability.  Under the program, parents, relatives, and guardians provide law enforcement with detailed information about the routines, behavior, and interests of the individual with special needs, including Autism, Alzheimer’s, dementia, and Down Syndrome, etc.

The information provided in this registry can provide timely and pertinent information on ways to communicate and assist with these persons during emergency situations.

Intially created by the Grand Island Police Department, the Merrick County Sheriff Dept seeks to expand the reach and influence of this program to Merrick County and surrounding areas.  The Sheriff Dept asks that you fill the registration form out completely to include current address, known vehicles associated, and a current photo. The information provided on the form is important.  This registration form can be linked to our database so that officers can have the most up to date information to better assist you and your family member or loved one.

If there are any changes we ask that you contact the Sheriff's Department as soon as the change occurs. You can call our office at (308) 946-2345 with questions or fill out an updated registration form online.

This service is free of charge and is a way for our community and our loved ones to know that the Sheriff's Department and its officers care about the safety and well being of all individuals, especially those with special needs and abilities.
